This website was built as the final project of HIS 385: The Rights and Wrongs of Women in 19th Century America at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. The lesson plans contained herein were specifically designed to fulfill Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for high school Social Studies.

ABOUT

I am a senior and candidate for a Bachelor of Arts in History at Stonehill College, Easton, MA. I have also fulfilled the licensing requirements for a Massachusetts 8-12 teaching license. I will be starting a Master of Library Science program at the University of Maryland in September 2013.

My inspiration for this project came from my student teaching experience from September-December 2012. High school Social Studies text books still distinctly lack material on women. The Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks attempt to rectify this and still fall short.

Therefore, I have tailored the frameworks regarding the antebellum South to a unit focusing on ordinary women living in the period. It is my hope that these lessons help students see history as a living, breathing thing and not just the dry, boring pages of a textbook.
